on rewriting weather…

July 6, 2012

today i wrote a poem.  please tell me if you like it (also tell me if you don’t)…

i’ve been writing
lots of letters lately.
some to old friends
(some i will never send)
and most of them
(and the topics therein)
discuss my thoughts
on the differences between
stratus and cumulonimbus.
i’ve been berating the bright,
beating sun, and
grieving the grass
(that crisped up and
browned months ago).

my daughter has
separate syllables
for all sorts of objects
in her world and
sometimes i think that
her way with language
would be the simpler
way around conversations.
she isn’t old enough
(yet) to understand
the weather.
she isn’t old enough
(yet) to write letters
about the summer in drought.
