on Love poems…

March 23, 2012

i won’t go on long, as the post today will simply be another poem i wrote recently.  any feedback or constructive criticism you have is appreciated (as always), so feel free to leave comments.  enjoy…

imperfect

i am no good at writing
Love poems.
i don’t have time to find
fluttery words
or make googly-eyes.
i don’t any longer imagine
a horse carrying a prince
who will kiss me
back to life (because
i’ve already got a life of my own).
i simply don’t believe
in fairytales
(and i cannot bring myself
to fathom “over the moon”).

i am no good at writing
Love poems.
i don’t have time to find
an underlying metaphor
or play footsie at taco bell.
i know your hair is dirty
blonde and your shoes smell
and your teeth are neither
straight nor
perfectly pearly white.
because, in Love poems,
gratitude is quantified in magic
(and not in how
often you take out the garbage).

i am no good at writing
Love poems.
because
i like all of you(r faults).
because i would rather
spend my time kissing (you), or
fighting (with you), or
fidgeting (by you), or
sleeping (next to you).
and i don’t need
to read another Love poem
to know:
that none of that other shit
matters anyway.
