I'm a Craftin' Outlaw

October 17, 2011

This past weekend I drove 800+ miles in order to partake in my first Craftin’ Outlaws show in Columbus, OH and boy was it a trip! The show (in it’s 7th year) was located at the Gateway Film Center on The Ohio State University Campus (during parents’ weekend). The theatre is surprisingly filled with amazing natural light and spread across two (three) levels where crafters were given ample amount of room to spread out and set up their wares. It was an amazing set-up and day and I was lucky enough to a) have a great friend in Emily from brainchild designs come with me for the day and b) be on the second floor overlooking the first floor for great people watching opportunities. Jessica Miller Photography took impeccable photos of most (if not all) of the vendors that day – see here!!

Though I’m sort of over the obligatory booth shot these days, I just had to post this one because, hello, it’s the best one ever!

Craftin’ Outlaws was loads of fun for too many reasons to list, but I’ll try;)

  • meeting, making, forging new friendships
  • amazing, friendly, helpful organizers
  • sweet space and discovering new set-up possibilities
  • the smell of buttered popcorn
  • full bar
  • gooeyz
  • columbus kinda rocks
  • carrying my work in a new store – igloo letterpress

After the show Emily and I had pre-planned to make a trek to Germantown to eat at the famous Schmidts Sausage Haus. Traffic was horrid as we made our way downtown, but once it cleared we made our way to the brick-paved streets and the home of  The Book Loft and Schmidt’s. An hour and a half (well worth it) later we were sitting inside the warm Haus with a scrumptious buffet of garlic and bahama mama sausages as well as sauerkraut, german potato salad, corned beef and cabbage, mashed potatoes, green beans, and homemade rolls waiting for us. Oh no, but wait, that’s not all. Two men in lederhosen set up to play polka music with drums and an accordion and CREAM PUFFS. Really, there are no words.

A happy weekend indeed.
